:. "NEVER-ENDING PRATTLE"

June 30, 2003

The Prattle may take a vacation - but it Never Ends!

OK, so it's been a while since I had the chance to get a column written - and quite a bit has happened in that time, so I'll cut the chatter and get down to business.

Nothing Personal

It has been suggested on Bendis's message board that whenever I defend someone who writes for GrayHaven, I only do it because he or she writes for GrayHaven. Let me assure people, I don't defend people I don't respect - and I have the utmost respect for the people who write for GrayHaven, if I defend someone, it is because I personally believe he or she deserves it.

In the past there may have seemed to be a bias on the part of Andrew (our illustrious founder and Editor emeritus), specifically as it relates to certain events of earlier this year - and before I was named EIC. I can't comment on that - it isn't my place. What I will comment on, is that none of those events have anything to do with the way I will deal with anyone. There is no GrayHaven conspiracy, or "hit list". I will deal with people as I see fit, just as I would encourage anyone else writing for GrayHaven to.

There really isn't anyone I have a grudge against, but if there were, I would hope people would be able to determine for themselves whether or not they should follow my lead based on their own experiences and not anything a moron like me would have to say.

Waiding Pool

Okay, let me quickly chime in with my two-cents on this whole Mark Waid/Fantastic Four crap that went down.

I don't care!

People are fired all the time, unfortunately for them they don't have an entire community of geeks to go nuts about it. I want to read comics - not somebody's dirty laundry.

When the comics have become secondary, things are getting out of control.

Relax people, Mark Waid will get a job. The Fantastic Four will continue to be published. Readers will still be allowed to make up their own minds about what to read.

'Nuff said.

Oh Poop!

Well, Wednesday was a sad day for comic book column readers - Title Bout, has finally ended. A.K. has been entertaining (and probably offending some) readers for a year. I don't really know what I can say about Title Bout that Chris Allen didn't say (and probably much better than I could) in his own column Breakdowns). Go read that.

So, I'll just say "Thanks, Abhay," and be done with it.

Editor's Pick

Parliament of Justice by Michael Avon Oeming and Neil Vokes.

This is one of those rare comics that defines the term "crafting a story". Oeming and Vokes put both their considerable talents together in this book to create a masterpiece of comic fiction that I believe belongs in anyone's collection next to other greats like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns.

I really don't want to give anything away for those who haven't heard of this work. I had a completely wrong notion of what I was going to be reading (JLA goes Victorian), but I had enough faith in the creators that what they were presenting me with would be different and fantastic enough to give me an enjoyable read. What I read completely blew my expectations out of the water.

I can't recommend this book highly enough.
